SAN Miguel bounced back after losing to Singapore Slingers last Wednesday to beat the Bangkoks Cobras 94-59 in the ASEAN Basketball League third season in front of their home crowd at the Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok last Saturday.

San Miguel had a big sequence in the third quarter when Doug Thomas had two big dunks and Kelvin Dela Pena hit back to back threes to stretch the lead 65 to 37. San Miguel imports Doug Thomas and Dalron Johnson played great defense to restrict Cobras forwards.

Bangkok Cobras imports, Gentry Lewis managed only 14 points and Michael Earl could only add a further 9. Last weeks hero against the Malaysia Dragons, Ratdech Kruatiwa also struggled in this game. After hitting a big half-court shot last weekend, Kruatiwa had a miserable game. He was 0 for 7 from the field.

Joe Bryant boys were outscored in almost every field, completing only 28 per cent of all their field goal attempts and managing only 22 points in the paint compared to the Philippines San Miguel 56 points.

They were also out rebounded 31 to 51 by the San Miguels who were on fire both offensively and defensively that night. Five of the San Miguel cagers managed double figure points in the game, Doug Thomson leading his team in points with 14 on top of 11 rebounds. The top scorer for the game however, is the Bangkok Cobras Marvin Cruz with 17 points.

Meanwhile, Saigon Heats poor run continues with their fifth straight loss, this time against the Indonesia Warriors who are hosting at the GOR Ctra Arena in Bandung, Indonesia.

Saigon Heats saw themselves with a 15 point deficit by the midway point through the first quarter. To make things worse for the visiting team, Saigons main point top player Julius Hodge found himself served with a disqualifying foul with just two minutes left in the first quarter. The quarter ended with the Warriors leading 36 to 13.

The Warriors Rony Gunawan had a great game in the first quarter completing 75 per cent of all his field goal attempts and leading the scoring for his team with 7 points.

Jonathan Jones of Saigon Heat stepping up his game and with just minutes left until half-time they cut the Warriors lead to just six points. Saigon were very consistent both offensively and defensively, outscoring the Warriors by more than double and they go into the halftime break at 45 to the Warriors 51.

Warriors coach John Todd Purves must have given his team a stern and demanding talk during the half-time break as they came out firing in the third quarter, Steven Demon Thomas and Amin Prihantono pushing their team ahead.

Saigon seems to have lost their steam a little bit and roles were reversed with the four of the Warriors players are into the double figures in points at this stage.

The Warriors are outscoring Saigon 28 to 8 with just a little under a minute and a half till the final quarter. The Warriors went into the final quarter with a comfortable lead when Mario Wuysang scored back to back three-pointers toward the end of the game.

It was an uphill battle for Saigon in the fourth quarter coming in and they had a difficult time suffering from Julius Hodges absence on the court. Despite brief flashes of brilliance from Jonathan Jones and John Smith, the final scoreboard read Indonesia Warriors defeated Saigon Heat 96-68.

Bobby Parks boys will next travel to the Tan Binh Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam to face the Saigon Heat on February 11. The Bangkok Cobras will be hosting their next game against the Indonesia Warriors on February12. The Brunei Times
