THE Royal Brunei Land Force shot down all competition to emerge as the winners of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Hockey Championships held at the Lumut Camp yesterday.
A solitary goal was all that was needed as the champions took down the Royal Brunei Air Force in the final with a score line of 1-0.
The goal was scored in the 20th minute of the first half by Cpl (U) Md Ade Dzulkarnaen.
The Royal Brunei Air Force's top player Cpl (U) Roy Useirman failed to inspire his team in the final despite putting on an impressive solo performance.
Goalkeeper Pte Abd Ahmad Wafi of the Royal Brunei Land Force displayed outstanding reflexes in the game.
He was tested numerous times by the opposing team but managed to prevent any equalisers by keeping a clean sheet.
Other participants in the competition included representatives from the Royal Brunei Navy, Training Institute RBAF and the Ministry Of Defence.
Second runner up went to the Royal Brunei Navy.
The team from Training Institute RBAF came in fourth while the Ministry of Defence's team rounded up the top-five finishers.
Cpl (U) Roy Usmeirman from Royal Brunei Air Force was voted Best Player.
He also bagged the 'Most Goals Prize' for the competition whilst the Best Goalkeeper award went to Pte Abd Ahmad Wafi.
The Royal Brunei Armed Forces hockey championship is held with the primary objective of strengthening the comradeship among players.
The championship also served to bring out and showcase players with the potential of representing the Ministry of Defence and Royal Brunei Armed Forces in both national and regional competitions.
Gracing the event as the guest of honour was RBAF Commander Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin.
Also present at the finals were service commanders, commandants, directors, officers and other RBAF personnel.
