EMBRACING the advantages of technology and social networking, the Brunei History Centre has decided to use Facebook to launch two new products - six books and a documentary film at its headquarters in the capital yesterday.

Its Deputy Head, Hj Abd Karim Hj Abd Rahman, told The Brunei Times that the History Centre decided to utilise the social networking site to reach a wider audience. Facebook is an effective tool for reaching people, especially the younger generation, he said.

Using an account titled "Narawahana" (which means "to spread" in Malay), Hj Abdul Karim said the centre is now able to get direct feedback on the products from the public.

"We can connect with more people, disseminating any information the History Centre wants to release. Facebook is easily accessible these days. It takes only a smartphone and Internet connection for someone to log onto the portal. This way, we are making good use of modern technology," said Hj Abd Karim.

Present as guest of honour to grace the launch of the products through the social networking site was Hj Mohd Rozan Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Yunos, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports.

About six books were launched during the programme along with a documentary named "Jejak Kesultanan Di Borneo" (Trails of the Sultanate in Borneo). Also present during the launching was the Head of Brunei History Centre, Pehin Jawatan Dalam Seri Maharaja Dato Seri Utama Dr Hj Muhd Jamil Al-Sufri, Senior Officers and staff.
