Brunei law society to conduct free legal advice clinic

THE Law Society of Brunei will conduct its next free legal advice clinic on Saturday, February 25 between 9am to 12pm at the ground floor of the Law and Subordinate Courts Building, Mile 1, Jln Tutong.

The aim of the clinic is to increase public awareness of legal matters by providing free legal consultation to certain sectors of the public who may not otherwise be able to obtain legal advice.

Advice will be provided on first come, first serve basis to members of the public seeking consultation in civil, criminal and syariah (Islamic Law) matters. They must not otherwise have legal representation and should provide their identity card, residential address and proof of monthly income of less than $750.

As a new format, the monthly clinics will be run by a different law firm each month on a rotation basis with support from the Legal Clinic Advice Committee of the Council of the Law Society. The upcoming clinic will be attended by lawyers from Hale Zainidi Ong.

The Law of Society of Brunei Darussalam council members also issued a press statement yesterday on its election and appointment of its council members for the year 2012/13.

The council members of the Law Society for 2012/13 and office bearers are as follows: Hj Muhammad Zainidi Hj Abdul Hamid (president), Sarojini Muthusamy Veerasamy (vice president), Tan Yuan Zin (secretary), Syarifah Safinatul Malai Hj Abd Hamid (treasurer), Pg Izad Ryan PLKDR Pg Hj Bahrin (statutory member [immediate past president]), Hjh Nor Hashimah Hj Mohd Taib (statutory member [appointed by the attorney general]), Damien Francis Hale (statutory member [appointed by the council]) as well as Hj Mohammad Daud Hj Ismail, Robin Cheok Van Kee, Ridzlan Hj Ibrahim, Adeline Chua Yu Yen, Subrina Tan Yii Chun and Ong Pei Zie@Eva.
