MYANMAR Ministry of Information will cooperate with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in drafting a media law, Xinhua news agency reported, citing local official media report yesterday.
The ministry is drafting the media law in accord with the constitutional provisions and based on international and regional norms and standards, said the New Light of Myanmar.
Under the cooperation between the ministry and UNESCO, a discussion will be held on the media role that can guarantee press freedom, responsibility and accountability in promoting democracy.
A workshop on printing and television laws will also be held under the collaboration between the ministry's personnel and ICT experts from UNESCO.
Meanwhile, the first ever workshop on media development in democratic society participated by eight countries — Indonesia, host Myanmar, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and the United States was held here last Monday. !The workshop was jointly organised by Myanmar Writers and Journalists Association (MWJA) and Singapore's Asian Media Information and Communication Centre (AMIC).Bernama
