Dear Editor,

IT IS heartening to read reports in your paper that Russia and Oman are interested in setting up joint ventures with Brunei in the energy sector.

These potential foreign ventures plus Brunei's emphasis on oil and gas diversification would not only make the country a knowledge-based dynamic economy but would also render it sustainable and competitive and probably even make it an industrial hub in the region.

And it would also be exciting to look forward to a number of job opportunities that will open up for the locals.

But for now, we should not be complacent and waste our country's resources such as gas and oil and take the heavily subsidised fuel price for granted by purchasing unnecessary vehicles.

We should be working with the government in taking up energy-saving initiatives.

After all, we all have a role to play in achieving the National Vision by 2035.
