Dear Editor,

IT WAS a little shocking to read in The Brunei Times that the residents of Lambak Kanan NHS have been waiting for 17 years for the authorities to take action on land erosion that had resulted in a landslide on August 21.

The Housing Development Department should take firmer actions in matters where the life and limb of the people are at stake. It appears that the authorities were moved to action only after the landslide occurred.

Fortunately, nobody was injured in the incident. The houses have been badly damaged by the shifting earth and the pictures published in your paper showed clearly the severity of the situation.

While the slow action of the authorities must be lamented, hopefully, now they will be moved to act with greater speed before another such incident occurs. The residents have been quoted as saying that the authorities need to repair the temporary homes before they can move in. Again, it is hoped that the work would be carried out with greater speed.
